Latch 1st Generation Access Control Platform

Latch is a New York City based access control solutions provider, launching their innovative first family of products in 2017. Focused on simple smartphone enabled access management, these initial three products are each tailored for specific types of multi-family residential or commercial environments.

Each of the locking solutions carries a common intuitive user interface which easily allows landlords, tenants, guests and delivery personnel to gain and control entry to a wide variety of locations.

Beyond this commonality, each product presented unique development challenges with respect to power, installation environment, and both wired and wireless communications interfaces.

The first generation platform of products has won six international design awards since 2016, and its successful deployment has attracted powerful partnerships with Jet.com, niido (Airbnb) and Comelit.

Developing Secure Hardware from the Ground Up

As the first full-time electrical engineer on staff, I wore every hat made available to bring successful products to market. From PCBA design in Altium to engineering leadership and system architecture planning, my work spanned an immense range of engineering and operations responsibilities unified in taking Latch to the next level.

As the company grew, I hired and led a team of electrical engineers to support and development of a wide array of products. Our group spent substantial time supporting manufacturing and sourcing efforts in China, and later managed a joint development effort with a design services team at a Tier 1 CM.
